Introduction of Academic Writing Task
In the IELTS Academic Writing Task 1, you are asked to write a descriptive report based on
visual data. This could be in the form of charts, graphs, tables, diagrams, or maps. The goal of this task is to
assess your ability to interpret, summarize, and present data in a coherent and organized manner.
You will be required to write at least 150 words, and your response must include a clear overview of the main
trends or features in the visual data, along with specific details supporting your analysis. It’s important to
focus on the key information while avoiding unnecessary details, and your writing should be structured
logically, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.
Key Aspects of Task 1
- Visual Data Interpretation - You’ll need to analyze and explain the data presented in various formats (e.g., line graphs, pie charts, bar graphs, process diagrams).
- Summarizing Key Trends - Identify the most significant trends or changes in the data (e.g., increases, decreases, comparisons).
- Describing Features Accurately -Provide specific details, such as numbers or percentages, and avoid subjective opinions.
- Clear Structure - Your writing should be clear, concise, and logically structured, with an introduction, overview, and specific details in the body paragraphs.
How to Approach Task 1
- Read the Instructions Carefully - You might be asked to describe trends over time, such as increases or decreases.
- Plan Your Response - Focus on comparing quantities, proportions, or percentages.
- Write Clearly and Concisely -Present and compare data across categories or time periods.
- Proofread Your Answer - Describe how something works or a sequence of events.
In IELTS Academic Writing Task 2, you are required to write an essay in response to a question or problem. The essay will test your ability to express your ideas clearly, develop an argument, and support your viewpoint with relevant examples and evidence. The question may ask you to discuss an issue, provide an opinion, compare different viewpoints, or suggest solutions to a problem.
The word count for Task 2 is at least 250 words, and you are expected to complete the task in about 40 minutes. Your answer will be judged on your ability to present a clear and well-organized argument, use a range of vocabulary and grammar structures, and address all parts of the question.
Key Aspects of Task 2
- Understanding the Question - You must carefully read the question to identify the task type and what is being asked. This could be discussing a problem, giving an opinion, comparing viewpoints, or suggesting solutions.
- Planning and Structure - Before writing, it’s essential to organize your ideas and decide on the structure of your essay. A clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion are crucial.

- Coherence and Cohesion - The essay must flow logically from one idea to the next, with proper linking words and phrases to connect sentences and paragraphs.

Types of Questions in Task 2
Task 2 questions can vary in format, but they generally fall into one of the following categories

- Double Question Essays (Answer Two Questions) - You will be asked to answer two separate but related questions, each requiring a clear response.
